An update on The Green Apple Awards that we are very happy to announce. The final round of judging for this year’s Green Apple Awards is completed and we’re delighted to hear that we have won a top award. There are Green Champion, Gold, Silver and Bronze awards in each category, and although we do not find out who has won what until the presentation ceremony itself in November– we are definitely a winner!

The Green Apple Environment Awards were launched in 1994 by The Green Organisation and have become well established as one of the most popular environmental campaigns in the world.

Our fundamental goal for at Just Clear is “zero-to-landfill”, making sure that reuse (now 42% of our waste turnover) and recycling is prioritised in every job we undertake. To make this idea a reality, we’ve also invested in 7 electric vehicles for waste clearances in the city.

Our carbon footprint in 2017 is at an all-time low.

When we set the task of reaching a zero-to-landfill status eight years ago, we implemented a bottom-up approach, educating the collection teams about our long term desires, and letting them come up with ideas. They had many, and they helped design the system that we use today. We let them develop the ideology themselves, with our guidance, and this then filtered back up through the business and to everyone who works here at Just Clear. This ideology is so strong now that when our teams are out clearing properties, customers become genuinely interested by the sustainability information that our teams openly share. People must be informed before they can become involved. This has seen us become referred for jobs countless times, especially within the environmentally conscious community, who see us as a logical outlet for their clearance. Don’t doubt that a group of concerned and dedicated people can change the world, it’s the only thing that really can.

We had two main incentives ourselves to reach a zero-to-landfill status, the first being that one of our driving forces for starting this business was to have a positive social effect. The second was the noticeable trend of rising landfill charge prices. We felt that the more we could avoid these charges, the lower the cost of clearing houses would be for our customers.

We’ve come to be recognised as a company that takes the environment seriously, but this didn’t happen overnight. It has taken eight years of dedication, company culture change and an intrinsic philosophy among our employees. Their commitment to this project has already seen us win Circular Economy Project of the Year in 2016 at the Business Green Leaders Awards.

The environmental, economic and social benefits of being zero-to-landfill are there to be seen. Landfills are filling up quickly, and as such, the cost of using them is skyrocketing. By sparing our collected waste from the landfill, we can pass on cost savings to customers, as well as ease their conscience with the second life of their unwanted items.

Each and every time a client chooses Just Clear over a company that uses landfill, they make a positive impact without compromise.
